Why you should opt for an Electric Toothbrush

Brushing your teeth is something that you do (hopefully) at least twice a day, so you should make the experience as good as possible. Electric toothbrushes are now very common, and there are many benefits to them. Often, an electric toothbrush is much better than a manual or traditional toothbrush, as it can make brushing easier, quicker, and more efficient.

Electric vs Manual?

There is a lot of talk about electric toothbrushes being better than manual ones, but why is this? Many studies have shown that using an electric toothbrush is more likely to keep your teeth and gums healthy in the long run.

The main thing to remember when brushing your teeth is doing it for long enough that you clean all of your teeth and clean them thoroughly. This is where electric toothbrushes have the edge over manual, as you can be surer that you’re getting a thorough clean.

On top of this, a lot of electric toothbrushes come with a two-minute programme built-in. This means that you don’t have to time yourself, and you can rest assured that you’re brushing your teeth for as long as the experts recommend.

The Best Technology

The technology that comes with an electric toothbrush is no match for a traditional toothbrush. Some of the more expensive toothbrushes come with interval timers and programmable settings which allow you to set them up exactly how you want. This also means that you can set intervals to remind you to switch sides.

Even better than this, some electric toothbrushes come with pressure sensors, which can tell you when you’re brushing too hard. Dentists and oral health experts recommend a light, gentle pressure while brushing your teeth. Too much pressure can cause the gums to recede which can lead to gum disease, amongst other things.

The technology on these toothbrushes is fantastic, allowing you to fully customise your brushing experience to make it work for you. They allow you to look after your teeth in the best way without having to put in loads of effort.

Smaller Brush Head

Usually with electric toothbrushes, the brush head on them is smaller than with manual brushes. This means that you can reach areas that you might not be able to with a manual brush. One of the big oral health problems that people suffer with is not thoroughly brushing their back teeth. This is because they’re harder to reach and harder to get to properly.

With a smaller brush head, this problem goes away. The smaller brush means that you are able to reach everywhere, including those troublesome back teeth that are otherwise hard to reach.

Dexterity

A lesser thought about reason for switching to an electric toothbrush is for those who have dexterity problems. Arthritis, Parkinson’s disease, and cerebral palsy are all issues that people face. But these people still need to brush their teeth.

Having an electric toothbrush allows people with dexterity issues to continue brushing their teeth themselves, retaining their independence. Not only this, but it means their oral health will stay excellent, which is one thing that everyone should have.

Is an electric toothbrush suitable for a child?

Children are notoriously bad at brushing their teeth. From not doing it properly to completely pretending – getting children to keep their teeth healthy is a challenge. With an electric toothbrush, you can rest assured that you children will be brushing their teeth better – even if they don’t want to.

The customisable programmes allow you to set it up for your child, so they know what they’re supposed to do. Some of the electric toothbrushes designed for children even have music that plays while they’re doing it – making brushing their teeth fun and hopefully encouraging them to finish the job!
